Nata nel 1995, Debora Pagano è un’artista italiana di Napoli. Ha iniziato a suonare il pianoforte da bambina, poi si è avvicinata ad altri strumenti e software per comporre digitalmente, scrivendo musica e testi, e iniziando il suo percorso in campo musicale. Nel giugno 2017 Debora si laurea con 110 in “Nuove Tecnologie dell’Arte” con focus in ‘Sound Design’ allo IED di Roma proponendo una tesi sperimentale con la partecipazione del cantautore e polistrumentista italiano Marco Castoldi in morgan art ; un album femminile (non ancora pubblicato) dal titolo “Le Donne di Spoon River” parallelo a “Non al denaro non all’amore nè al Cielo” di Fabrizio De André.
Negli anni successivi Debora ha partecipato a diverse masterclass e concorsi musicali: dalla Masterclass in sound design con Morgan e Raffaele Stefani al tour del festival musicale. Nel 2018 si trasferisce a Milano iniziando la sua collaborazione come autrice e cantautrice con l’etichetta discografica e casa di produzione “Nuvole e Sole”, con la quale ha pubblicato il suo primo singolo, “Groupie”, a marzo 2019. Questo l’ha inserita nel panorama alternativo italiano come nuovo arrivato. Nei mesi successivi pubblica “A Maggio” una canzone esplicita ‘o-Maggio’ per il cantautore salentino Antonio Maggio, con la stessa etichetta. Durante l’anno, ha eseguito più volte duetti come ospite dal vivo con Andy dei Bluvertigo. È stata anche ospite di Morgan nella sua trasmissione su Rai Radio2, in quanto esperta delle differenze tra “non al denaro non al cielo”, del cantautore genovese e l’omonimo remake di Morgan per la seconda puntata di “Cantautoradio” a tema Fabrizio De André.
A livello cinematografico, Debora ha collaborato a due testi in inglese (so lost and away from love) con Dario Lanzellotti, prodotto da Sugar Music, per il pluripremiato film ‘Bangla’ (tra cui il David di Donatello e migliore colonna sonora al Terni Festival) di Phaim Bhuiyan. Nel dicembre 2019 pubblica per Aletti Editore il suo primo libro-raccolta di testi “Con-Testi In-Versi”, inserito nella collana “Poeti in transito” con prefazione di Francesco Gazzè, due dei quali letti e interpretati da Alessandro Quasimodo con suggestivi montaggi video (i canti che li ascolta e come l’acqua per l’airone).
Nel gennaio 2020, Debora ha realizzato una cover della canzone di Taylor Swift “Calm Dawn”, completamente riarrangiata e tradotta in italiano, adattando la metrica originale e il significato stesso della canzone contro il sessismo e gli attacchi dei media. Per la fine di febbraio 2020 pubblica un lavoro di interpretazione e studio sul brano presentato lo stesso anno da Francesco Gabbani al Festival di Sanremo, classificato al secondo posto, ovvero ‘Viceversa’ realizzando il brano in chiave personale e reinterpretando l’ufficiale. video clip, realizzando un vero e proprio remake audio-video completo completamente fatto in casa. Per tutto il periodo di quarantena dovuto alla diffusione del COVID-19 si impegna come intervistatore in una trasmissione web ideata da Silvia Nasti per diffondere musica e cultura attraverso interviste a personaggi noti del settore.
Nel luglio 2020, Debora ha prodotto con la cantautrice e stilista Marta Damm il brano “Unknown” di cui ha curato anche artisticamente il video e la grafica, pubblicato in modo indipendente dall’artista Damm. Quell’agosto ha collaborato con l’autore e compositore Andrea Papazzoni per scrivere il testo per la canzone / racconto ‘Sarebbe opportuno’ pubblicato su tutti gli store digitali, una breve storia della vita quotidiana che cerca di far conoscere quello che a volte, sarebbe appropriato da fare. Il mese successivo crea, con Giuseppe Fusco per lo studio di produzione FM Records Music di Roma, la voce principale del jingle del nuovo spot per il noto marchio di moda ‘O bag’ Italia, lanciato per la nuova collezione di borse.
L’ultimo singolo di Debora, “Negli Occhi Di Un Altro”, è stato pubblicato il 22 gennaio 2021.
Born in 1995, Debora Pagano is an Italian artist from Naples. She began playing the piano as a child, then approached other instruments and software to compose digitally, writing music and lyrics, and beginning her path in the musical field. In June 2017, Debora graduated with 110 in “New Technologies of Art” with focus in ‘Sound Design’ at the IED in Rome proposing an experimental thesis with the participation of the Italian singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist, Marco Castoldi in morgan art; a women’s album (not yet published) entitled “Le Donne di Spoon River” parallel to “Non al denaro non all’amore nè al Cielo” by Fabrizio De André.
In the following years, Debora participated in various masterclasses and music competitions: from the Masterclass in sound design with Morgan and Raffaele Stefani to the music fest tour. In 2018, she moved to Milan starting her collaboration as an author and singer-songwriter with the record label and production company, “Nuvole e Sole,” with whom she released her first single, “Groupie,” in March 2019. This inserted her into the Italian alternative panorama as a newcomer. In the following months, she released “A Maggio” an explicit song ‘o-Maggio’ to the Salento singer-songwriter Antonio Maggio, with the same label. During the year, she performed duets several times as a live guest with Andy of Bluvertigo. She was also a guest of Morgan in her broadcast on Rai Radio2, as an expert in the differences between “non al denaro non al cielo,” of the Genoese singer-songwriter and the homonymous remake of Morgan for the second episode of “Cantautoradio” themed Fabrizio De André.
At the film level, Debora collaborated on two texts in English (so lost and away from love) with Dario Lanzellotti, produced by Sugar Music, for the award-winning film ‘Bangla’ (including the David di Donatello and best soundtrack at the Terni Festival) by Phaim Bhuiyan. In December 2019, she published for Aletti Editore his first book-collection of texts “Con-Testi In-Versi,” inserted in the series “poets in transit” with a preface by Francesco Gazzè, two of which were read and interpreted by Alessandro Quasimodo with suggestive video montages (the songs who listen to them and like water for the heron).
In January 2020, Debora made a cover of Taylor Swift’s song “Calm Dawn,” completely rearranged and translated into Italian, adapting the original metric and the very meaning of the song against sexism and media attacks. For the end of February 2020, she published a work of interpretation and study on the song presented the same year by Francesco Gabbani at the Sanremo Festival, classified in second place, or ‘Viceversa’ creating the song in a personal key and reinterpreting the official video clip, creating a real complete audio-video remake completely home-made. Throughout the quarantine period due to the spread of COVID-19 he engages as an interviewer in a web broadcast designed by Silvia Nasti to disseminate music and culture through interviews with well-known people in the sector.
In July 2020, Debora produced with the singer-songwriter and fashion designer Marta Damm the song “Unknown” of which she also artistically curated the video and graphics, published independently by the artist Damm. That August, she collaborated with the author and composer Andrea Papazzoni to write the text for the song /story ‘It would be appropriate’ published on all digital stores, a short history of everyday life that tries to raise awareness ofwhat sometimes, it would be appropriate to do. The following month, she created, the main voice of the jingle of the new commercial for the well-known fashion brand ‘O bag’ Italia, launched for the new collection of bags, with Giuseppe Fusco for the production studio FM Records Music in Rome.

Cosa ti ha ispirato a diventare un musicista?
What inspired you to become a musician?
Più che ispirato direi che si è sviluppata dentro di me una vera e propria esigenza che mi ha portata a voler approcciare alla musica in modo pratico oltre che teorico o da semplice ascoltatrice.
Senza dubbio l’ispirazione l’ho avuta ascoltando gli artisti che mi hanno trasmesso passione e interesse verso questa forma d’espressione.
More than inspired I would say that a real need has developed within me that has led me to want to approach music in a practical way as well as theoretical or as a simple listener.
No doubt I had the inspiration listening to the artists who gave me passion and interest in this form of expression.
Quanti anni avevi quando hai iniziato a suonare?
How old were you when you started playing (music)?
Ho iniziato a suonare il pianoforte intorno ai sette anni prendendo lezioni private, poi verso la prima adolescenza ho approcciato da autodidatta ad altri strumenti come l’ukulele (che ho approfondito) e altri ancora che semplicemente strimpello. Ho avuto un approccio discontinuo con lo studio effettivo degli strumenti. Successivamente intorno ai sedici anni mi sono avvicinata all’elettronica e alla fine delle superiori ho deciso di approfondire sulla produzione e iniziare il mio percorso di studi per poi laurearmi in Sound Design.
I started playing the piano around the age of seven taking private lessons, then towards my early teens I approached as a self-taught to other instruments such as the ukulele (which I deepened) and others that simply squealed. I had a discontinuous approach with the actual study of the tools. Then around the age of sixteen I approached electronics and at the end of high school I decided to deepen on production and start my studies and then graduate in Sound Design.
Come descriveresti la tua musica?
How would you describe your music?
Penso che una vera e propria etichetta a livello di genere sia difficile, a volte sono pop a volte sono elettronica con tendenze new wave e altre ancora sono cantautorale nel senso più classico del termine. Sicuramente è una musica che rispecchia quello che penso e quello che sento nel momento in cui la scrivo, ci tengo molto a dire e fare cose da poter ascoltare in futuro e dire “la penso ancora così” oppure “mi ricordo quell’emozione”.
I think a real label at the gender level is difficult, sometimes they are pop sometimes they are electronic with new wave trends and others I am cantautorale in the most classic sense of the term. Surely it is a music that reflects what I think and what I feel when I write it, I really want to say and do things that I can listen to in the future and say “I still think so” or “I remember that emotion”.

Le mie ultime due esibizioni risalgono a Maggio 2019, entrambe in duetto con il musicista e cantante Andy (Andrea Fumagalli dei Bluvertigo), la prima delle due è stata al Teatro Manzoni di Monza e la seconda all’UpTown Milano, cantammo entrambe le volte ‘Space Oddity’ di David Bowie in occasione di due eventi ai quali fui invitata da Andy.
Purtroppo non ho avuto modo di esibirmi nuovamente dopo le operazioni subite alla colonna vertebrale, e poi è entrato in gioco il lockdown e il Covid-19 quindi al momento è un po’ difficile fare previsioni su concerti a breve.
My last two performances date back to May 2019, both duet with the musician and singer Andy (Andrea Fumagalli of Bluvertigo), the first of the two was at the Manzoni Theater in Monza and the second at UpTown Milano, we both sang David Bowie’s ‘Space Oddity’ both times on the occasion of two events to which I was invited by Andy.
Unfortunately I did not have the opportunity to perform again after the operations suffered in the spine, and then the lockdown and Covid-19 came into play so at the moment it is a little difficult to make predictions about concerts shortly.
Dov’è il luogo del tuo concerto ideale?
Where is your ideal place to perform?
Se devo dire un palco in generale, mi piacerebbe il palco di Sanremo, ma sicuramente non sarebbe per un concerto tutto mio.
Il mio luogo ideale è certamente il Teatro Greco di Tindari perché è uno dei luoghi in cui sono cresciuta e a cui ho assistito a tante esibizioni, è un posto suggestivo e legato alla mia storia personale.
If I have to say a stage in general, I would like the stage in Sanremo, but it certainly would not be for a concert of my own.
My ideal place is certainly the Greek Theater of Tindari because it is one of the places where I grew up and which I have witnessed many performances, it is a suggestive place and linked to my personal history.

What is your favorite song to perform?
Non saprei dirne una effettivamente, ci sono tante canzoni che mi emozionano e che mi piace cantare anche non mie. In questo momento ho molta voglia di far sentire il mio ultimo singolo ‘Negli occhi di un altro’.
I can’t actually say one, there are so many songs that excite me and that I like to sing even not mine. Right now I really want to make my last single ‘Negli occhi di un altro’ feel.

Which famous musicians do you admire?
Questa è una domanda molto difficile perché ho tante risposte e tutte molto diverse, ma senza girarci intorno dico subito Morgan e i Bluvertigo perché mi hanno formata artisticamente e musicalmente. Aggiungo artisti italiani come Fabrizio De André, Daniele Silvestri e Lucio Dalla, sempre perché mi sono formata ascoltandoli, più attuali e sicuramente insostituibili anche Francesco Gabbani e Antonio Maggio, ma i nomi da fare sarebbero davvero troppi e tutti diversi, concludo con gli intramontabili David Bowie, Elton John, Michael Jackson e Depeche Mode.
This is a very difficult question because I have so many answers and all very different, but without turning around I immediately say Morgan and Bluvertigo because they trained me artistically and musically. I add Italian artists such as Fabrizio De André, Daniele Silvestri and Lucio Dalla, always because I trained listening to them, more current and certainly irreplaceable also Francesco Gabbani and Antonio Maggio, but the names to do would be really too many and all different, I conclude with the timeless David Bowie, Elton John, Michael Jackson and Depeche Mode.
Qual è il miglior consiglio che ti è stato dato?
What is the best advice you’ve been given?
Professionalemente parlando mi è rimasto impresso un consiglio di qualche anno fa, quando avevo alcuni dubbi sul mio percorso musicale Morgan mi disse “Coltiva la tua serietà e la tua completezza perché hai gli strumenti e le capacità per farlo, lascia perdere cose che servono solo a nutrire l’immagine”. Sicuramente i consigli migliori me li ha dati sempre lui, ma questo è diventato un mantra.
Professionally speaking I was impressed by a tip from a few years ago, when I had some doubts about my musical path Morgan said to me “Cultivate your seriousness and your completeness because you have the tools and the skills to do it, forget things that only serve to nourish the image”. Surely the best advice he always gave me, but this has become a mantra.
Se potessi cambiare qualcosa nel settore della musica, quale sarebbe?
If you could change something about the Music Industry, what would it be?
L’opportunità di esprimersi e di emergere a chi ha meno possibilità, a partire dallo studio della musica stessa alle esperienze e alla gavetta che spesso vengono negate a causa della mancanza di vie preferenziali o di fondi. Non ritengo giusto che persone spesso molto valide abbiano meno possibilità di chi ricerca esclusivamente consensi e guadagni facili.
The opportunity to express themselves and to emerge to those who have less chance, starting from the study of the music itself to the experiences and gavetta that are often denied due to the lack of preferential routes or funds. I do not think it is right that people who are often very good should have less chance than those who seek only consensus and easy profits.
Qual è un messaggio che vorresti dare ai tuoi fan?
What is a message you would like to give to your fans?
Che l’impegno, la costanza, la generosità e la passione per quello che si ama pagano sempre. Non bisogna mai arrendersi davanti agli ostacoli della vita e cercare una propria dimensione e un percorso che possano renderci davvero felici, sempre nel rispetto degli altri e con la voglia di donare e condividere una parte di se stessi in qualsiasi ambito.
That commitment, constancy, generosity, and passion for what you love always pays off. You must never give up in the face of the obstacles of life and look for your own dimension and a path that can make us really happy, always respecting others and with the desire to give and share a part of yourself in any field.
